What a fab interview and conversation, and the way you've presented it with the Bandcamp tracks and videos. So enlightening.
Just listening to the part where you discuss Noire piano, and I agree it's a wonderful piano instrument, but I must admit to being somewhat of a piano plugin collector, as I just adore pianos, and the textures I can create with them. I often create textures and stretches, tapey effect piano sounds for my pieces. I often start with a piano.
My favourites are Lekko, Olafur's Stratus, Noire, Una Corda, and the Arvo Pärt piano in Orchestral Tools Salur collection (I bought just the piano and some ambient elements out of that pack).
Have you heard the Max Richter Piano plugin? I absolutely adore the softness, the delicacy, and the warmth, especially of the closed piano.
I'm also trying to explore ambient guitar sounds via apps and plugins, but am struggling to find anything that helps me get to the sound in my head. The search continues.
Anyway, thanks so much to both of you for this conversation, there's so much in here to listen to and explore time and time again.
…and I was amazed to discover that there's a Boards of Canada Bandcamp page — how did I miss that?
Thanks so much for listening and saying so, Daniel! Had a blast with this one.
I really enjoyed this interview and learning about his process.
Thanks for checking it out! Yeah, I love the simplicity and honesty in Tom’s approach.
Another wonderful and inspiring conversation, Andrew. Thanks for sharing.
